Toms Home Garden April 2012

#336

We’ve had plenty of rain this year but some dry spells as well, so the garden is coming along well except for the tons of grass in the isles. The potatoes are up I planted 10 days ago and some of my transplants are visible. Lettuce and Chard are winter over’s. Used row cover on the lettuce and had 16 planted in the cold frame on the rt. They were Transplanted Dec 2 and waited to grow, but are sweet and tender now. The ones that wintered under row cover are not quite as tender. Oh yes, peas are finally up and some new chard have just broken through. That’s chives front and center and garlic on the left in two different types and plantings.   Beans will go in the ground in a week or so and I have two flats of tomatoes re potted in 4 ” pots to go in the ground soon. One flat is Peace vine cherry tomatoes, which did great last year. The other flatis Oregon Spring Tomatoes, which do pretty well.

After making like Rip Van Winkle for the past five years, home buyers in certain areas are
being jolted awake by a triple shot of low prices, low interest rates and a recovering
economy.
Fully caffeinated by all the positive data, they’re eager to buy their dream homes. Too bad
they may have to stand in line. Active listings in King County dropped 36 percent in March
compared to a year earlier, according to the Northwest Multiple Listing Service, while
pending sales rose 27 percent.
In other words, an increasing number of buyers are chasing a decreasing number of
homes. …

Report Reveals Number of Foreclosures Down From Last Year

#231

“The inventory of foreclosed properties has begun to shrink, and the pace at which properties are entering foreclosure is slowing. While foreclosure filings are being curtailed by a variety of judicial and regulatory constraints, mortgage servicers are completing REO sales faster than they are completing foreclosures,” Mark Fleming, chief economist with CoreLogic, said in the release. “This is the first time in a year that REO sales have outpaced completed foreclosures, and part of the reason for the decrease in the foreclosure inventory.” As reported by Esther Cho in the DS News.com

An Intro Video to Greenbank Farm on Whidbey Island

We are fortunate to have The Greenbank Farm as a community resource. Here is a link to their web page:

http://www.greenbankfarm.biz

and, a bit of video of the farm.   http://youtu.be/5jKAmIAH8Z8 I don’t show much of the agricultural portion of the farm because it is winter and not much is growing. Please check out the web site listed above for more pictures and information.
I’m impressed with the farm training program and enjoy working in my “Pea Patch” community garden plot.

This is my new blog format, so just checking it out.
The days are getting longer and we’ve had more days of sun as well as rain and wind over the past week.
Temps have been warmer, but a bit of frost this morning.

The Real Estate Market has been firming up. I think it is time for all those waiting on the sidelines to take action.
